Site Preparation

A few simple steps to prepare a level, solid site so your building is delivered smoothly and lasts for years.

A level, solid site is the most important part of a long-lasting building. Site leveling and preparation is the customer's responsibility, and your site must be level and ready before our driver arrives. Our drivers do their best to position your building, but they are on a tight schedule with other deliveries that day, so a ready site keeps everything smooth.

🚧Clear the path for delivery

We need room to bring the building to its final spot. Please allow at least 1 foot of clearance on each side, and more room for any turns. Any trees or fences in the path must be removed beforehand. Many people simply pull a fence post and move a section the day before.

📐

Minimum requirement

With our pressure-treated 4x4 skids, treated floor joists, and exterior-grade plywood floor, the basic requirement is a hard, level surface. A building can sit right on your yard or driveway, but the site must be level. If it is not, the doors will not line up properly (visible from outside) and will not operate smoothly.

Recommended: a crushed-stone pad

The best base is unwashed crushed stone, 4 to 6 inches thick, leveled and tamped, extended about 1 foot beyond the building on all sides. This drains well and packs into a hard, long-lasting pad. Avoid round or washed stone like pea gravel; it does not pack firmly enough for our delivery equipment.

A poured concrete slab is also an excellent, permanent base, as long as it is level and sized for your building (about 1 foot larger on each side works well). It is a great choice if you want a finished floor, and your building can be set right on it.

🧱Using blocks to level your site

Plenty of customers set their building on blocks and it works out well. Just keep in mind there is a higher chance of settling over time, so if you go this route, place the blocks in the correct spots (under the building's 4x4 runners) and get them well leveled.

If your site is only slightly off and you want to use blocks to make the building level, please have the blocks on hand when the driver arrives so the driver can shim a corner if needed.

Local companies that prepare shed pads

Not set up to prep the site yourself? These local companies regularly build pads for Cedar Rock Barns customers. Reach out to them directly for a quote. They are independent businesses, so their pricing is set by them and is subject to change.
